Linda's Top Ten Favorite Movies:
- Auntie Mame
The Rosalind Russell version only. I just love this movie. It's an oldie, but a goodie. Loaded with lots of social commentary and excellent facial expressions. "Auntie Mame, what's 'hung'?"
- The Blues Brothers
Ask any guy who loves this movie how they feel about musicals and, without a doubt, they will dub them "gay". And yet, The Blues Brothers is a musical in the most obnoxious of ways. People break out into song and dance in unnatural ways. However, it's really great blues they are breaking out into and the script is one of the funniest ever. I miss the days of a thin Dan Akroyd and a non-dead John Belushi.
- Dead Poets Society
I just have a warm place in my heart for this movie. It was such a tear jerker, but also one that reminds me how important literature should be to everyone.
- The Breakfast Club / Ferris Bueller's Day Off
How the heck can you pick between these two movies? It was hard enough not to include "Pretty In Pink" here too. John Hughes wrote the scripts that pretty much explained and defined what it was like to be a teenager in the eighties. Granted, they were broad stereotypes, but they were so right on. Plus, the movies were really funny.
- Clerks
Kevin Smith is a genius and any of his movies could be listed here. I was disappointed with "Strike Back", but even that was better than most of the shit out there. I love Kevin Smith.
- Alladin/Shrek
I can't decide if Shrek is the best cartoon ever made or if it's Alladin. It's a hard choice. Both are hysterically funny. Shrek was a genius script in general, whereas Alladin depended on Robin Williams improvisation to make is so amusing. On the other hand, Alladin has some really, really catchy tunes. I can't decide.
- Orgasmo
"I'm not Orgasmo." "I am Sancho". You either love this movie, or you really hated it. Or you haven't seen it. Probably the latter. This is one really freakin' funny movie.
- Arthur
One of my very favorite movies to quote. This is such a great movie and a sequel never, ever should have been made.
- Monty Python and the Holy Grail
It's hard to choose one Python movie over the other and "The Grail" is the obvious choice - however it's the obvious choice because it's one of the funniest movies ever made. Ni.
- Mommie Dearest
I'm showing my tendancies towards fag-hag-itude here. This is the most overwrought dramatic piece of wonderfulness ever made. The drama. THE DRAMA. Probably my favorite movie to quote. Barbara PLEASE!
